The Conversion Calculator contains five separate unit conversion utilities. There is a utility for Distance and Length, Mass, Volume (liquid and solid), and Area. Each utility allows for Metric to English and English to Metric conversions. The buttons at the top of the calculator allows for the selection of the type of conversion you require.
Each conversion utility is similarly constructed. Below the Conversion Type selector is a conversion utility for Metric to English. Below that is a conversion utility for English to Metric. In the special case of Distance and Length conversion, there is a third conversion utility for Obsolete to Current Units. Near the top of each conversion utility is line or two of abbreviations used and their equivalances (e.g. mm = millimeters). Below that is the conversion utility. That's followed with a line or two of common equivalencies (e.g. 1 m = 1×103 mm).
Numbers can be entered with commas, separating thousands, millions, billion digits, e.g. 12,345,678,901. The commas will be removed from the number before it is converted. Commas will not be used on any of the output values.
Numbers can also be entered in the input areas using the Scientific Notation "E" format. The "E" format displays a number in exponential notation, replacing part of the number with E+n, where E (which stands for Exponent) multiplies the preceding number by 10 to the nth power. For example, a 2-decimal Scientific format displays 12,345,678,901 as "1.23E+10, which is 1.23 times 10 to the 10th power".
Due to a limitation in HTML Drop-down selector labels, which can not produce superscripts or subscripts, the selector tabs for Volume (solid and liquid), and Mass display selections in a "Value^Exponent" format. Where the "^" indicates exponentiation. For example, under Solid Volumes, there will be a label that says "in^3" and is read as "cubic inches".
When the multipliers or results become too large (> 999) or too small (< 0.001), in any conversion utility, the numbers will be displayed in Scientific Notation. Large numbers will be in the format 1.23×10+5, which is read as "1.23 times 10 to the positive 5th power". Small numbers would be in the format 1.23×10-5, which is read as "1.23 times 10 to the negative 5th power"

This may seem like the same conversion calculator as the Distance/Length utility in the calculator at the top of the page. It is similar, but the main difference is that both of the calculators below handle feet, inches, and fractions of an inch. This can be useful when you are trying to convert a dimensional specification from metric to US/Imperial dimensions. Or, when your trying to convert from feet, inches, and fractions of an inch to metric dimension. These two calculators can provide you with a easy way of handling these conversions.

The calculator on the left provides you with Metric to Feet/Inch Conversion. Just enter your metric dimension in the top left (km to nm) and then select the Output Resolution you require. The area below the entry area will show the conversion equation followed by the converted value in decimal feet, decimal inches, and Feet-Inches. e.g. xx' yy-zz". Where "xx" is feet, "yy" is inches, and "zz" is the fraction of an inch.
Note: The output of this calculator will reduce the fractional output. By that I mean, instead of showing an output as "24/64", the fraction will be reduced and show as "3/8"
The calculator on the right provides you with Feet/Inch to Metric Conversion. The button at the top are used to define whether you are Decimal Feet, Decimal Inches, or Feet-Inches. When converting from Decimal Feet or Decimal Inches, any unnecessary input areas are disabled and "grayed" out
Notes: When converting "Feet-Inches", all input areas (Feet, Inchs, and Fraction) are considered as integers. Decimal values will simply be truncated to the closest integer. However when converting from "Decimal Inches" or "Decimal Feet", the input areas will accept values with a decimal point.
